我們的記憶是由腦中的神經元和它們之間的連接構成。當我們學習或體驗某件事時,相關的神經元會被激活、連接,就是我稱為的烙印。這些神經元連接組合起來的「記憶痕跡」,慢慢地形成一個個烙印沙丘,再隨著重覆使用與激活這些神經元,沙丘慢慢結實,形式島嶼。 這些島嶼之間的關連連接橋越多,入口就越充足,思考時能回想起這段記憶的機會就越大。而每次重新回憶及使用這些連接時,這個島嶼的地基就會越穩固,亦有可能形式新的連接橋。 而當兩個看似沒關係的神經元烙印島嶼連接起來時,新的洞察力(Insight)就因而形成。

捉緊快閃靈感的方法:寫下神經元烙印的入口: 我們的思念、想法、靈感,往往會在腦海中飛快閃過。如果可以捉緊這念頭,往往會擴展出一段新想法、新構想、或與現有的想法連結起新的神經元通訊通道。 問題是,怎樣捉緊這些快閃思念。我會用紙筆、或長開的 iPad、或長開的手寫 eInk 電子紙。然後在閃過思念時極速寫下關於這念頭的一兩個關鍵字。又或者在街外時,馬上拿起 To-Do 軟件,將最重要的關鍵字打上。 這樣,就算馬上有別的事情要做,只要這個關鍵字在,忘碌完再回來處理時,就可以順藤摸瓜,從這個入口,重新激活起剛剛在腦內神經元之間閃過的微弱痕跡,剛才的靈感便會重新浮現出來。 所以我捉緊快閃靈感的方法是留下入口,否則,門都沒有。

每逢我拿著書,遇到朋友時,就會比較容易打開平時不太會談的話題。通常朋友會好奇我在看甚麼書,然後話題便會圍繞著書本標題而展開。 如果是愛書之人,話題就會變成書中的內容,以及引伸至大家閱讀過的其他書籍,進行廣泛的討論。 如果不是愛書之人,我就會把書的內容引申到生活中的點滴,轉變成生活化的討論。

我習慣使用To-Do來撰寫快速筆記,原因有以下: 一, To-Do是其中一個最常開的軟件,所以是最容易存取到的軟件,也是很可能一直長開而存在於記憶體中沒有關掉的軟件。符合快速記錄所需要的快速打開。 二,快速記錄即是正在等待琢磨的原材料,所以本身也是一個To-Do Task,文字等待被進一步擴展,然後放到輸出的位置。所以存放於待辦事項中也是合理。
